Technogoose: Our Essential Travel Electronics

We all need to stay connected while on the road, here are the top 5 travel electronics I like to take with me as I travel around the world.

1. A Good Camera

Panasonic FZ-45

I like to take lots of photos, and I want them to be good photos that I will want to keep forever. A high quality camera is essential to me and I would hate not to be able to capture the world around me as I see it.

I went for a bridge camera because travelling with a DSLR seems expensive and impractical with the many different lenses. My Panasonic FZ-45 gives me high quality images from a device I can easily take anywhere.

2. A Not So Good Camera
Ok this one is just as essential as the good camera. There is many situations where I would just not take my FZ-45. A relaxing day on the beach would be spoiled by the thought of sand or sea damaging the good camera.

We have a Fujifilm FZ33WP, a waterproof camera that will give good enough images and is a lot more resistant to any damage. This thing went white water rafting with us and on many nights out. If it did get lost or broken I’d be sad but its totally replaceable and allows me to take pictures when I’m not carrying the more expensive camera

3. A Netbook
Netbooks are not perfect, but for me they are ideal for travelling. Our Compaq mini cost £200 and allows me to do everything I need to do while on the road. It is handy enough to use on a plane and with a built in mic and webcam its very easy for Skype. Photo editing is fine and even video editing to an extent.

4. Portable Storage
I have a small 320GB hard drive full of my favourite music, movies and TV shows. I backup all my files across my devices and keep this thing as secure as I do my passport. I also backup my most important things online for added protection. I often find devices are easily replaceable but the data on them is up to you to protect.

A pen drive is always handy aswell, from getting travel documents printed to working at another workstation, its a wise thing to keep on your keyring.

5. Kindle 3G
I am a big fan of Kindle The ability to receive free internet worldwide is amazing to me and offers something other travel electronics cannot. I love my UK newspaper delivered wirelessly every morning and find it the best way to read books. The battery life is great and it is very portable. Read my post on Kindle.

These are just 5 of the travel electronics I like to take with me, do you take your gadgets on trips? Leave a comment and let us know your favourites.
