One Fantastic Day in Niagara Falls: A Simple 24 Hour Guide

All the information you need for a fun-filled 24 hours in Niagara Falls.
Having recently moved to Canada, I have been eager to explore as many new places as possible — one of these being Niagara Falls. Located just 2 hours from downtown Toronto, it makes the perfect place for a quick 24-hour visit. Similarly, if you are located on the other side of the border in the USA, Niagara Falls is also an easy place to visit from the states that are located on the border.
Apart from seeing Niagara Falls, doing one of the activities near the falls and looking around the town of Niagara Falls, there isn’t an abundance of things to see and do. Here’s everything you need to do to experience the best of 24 hours in Niagara Falls.
24 Hours in Niagara Falls

Getting There
We took the Megabus from downtown Toronto to Niagara Falls. No, it’s not the most glamourous mode of transport in the world, but for just USD30 return we were in Niagara Falls within 2 hours — impressive! There is also a VIA Rail train from Union Station to Niagara Falls Station. At USD27 return for the train, it is a slightly cheaper way to get to Niagara Falls but it takes 2 hours, 50 minutes compared to 2 hours on the bus.
The bus station is located 4km from the main streets of accommodation, entertainment and shopping in Niagara Falls town. There is a bus from the station to the middle of town, however, if you’re travelling with more than one person, the quick taxi ride to the town is $15 well spent.
Stay
We stayed at the Hilton Niagara Falls/Fallsview Hotel and Suites in a US/Canada Fallsview room. I highly recommend staying in a room where you can see the Canadian Falls. It’s a wonderful view and worth the slightly higher room rate.
Things to See and Do
Walk to Niagara Falls
There’s a long footpath along the Canadian side of Niagara Falls which is a great spot to get all your photos, view the falls and getting a refreshing spray from the Falls, if you walk close enough.
Maid of the Mist or the Hornblower
Those photos of poncho-clad crowds huddled together on an open-top boat as it sails toward the US and Canada Falls? These boats are the Maid of the Mist (USA side) and the Hornblower on the Canadian side.
If you do anything during your 24 hours in Niagara Falls, make this it! Standing in the boat at the base of the Falls, made me appreciate the incredible scale and force of this natural wonder.
Check out Fallsview Casino
Apart from the Falls, Niagara Falls is also known for its large casino. I’m not a big gambler myself, but it was fun to visit the Fallsview Casino for a drink and a punt at a couple of rounds of roulette (I lost).
Eat and drink at Niagara Brewing Company
Niagara Brewing Company has a great combination of typical bar food and locally brewed beer – think chicken burgers, nachos and flatbread pizzas. The two patios are the perfect place to refuel and people watch.
Niagara Falls was a great place to spend 24 hours and I don’t think you need any more time than that to see everything without being rushed. I highly recommend a visit especially if you’re located close to Niagara Falls in Canada or the USA, making it an easy place to travel to.
