Global Goose is Going to New Orleans!

In one week Lee and I will be heading down south to New Orleans to revel in the lively culture of the “Big Easy”.

We had a six day break over the long weekend and we decided that the 23 hour bus journey from Virginia was worth it to get a chance to see this legendary city.

I have wanted to visit New Orleans for a long time. There is something about this city which fascinates me. Perhaps it is the blend of African-American and French culture, maybe it is the promise of an abundance of mouth-watering food, or maybe it is the notoriously vibrant nightlife. I can’t wait to stroll down Bourbon Street, take a riverboat on the Mississippi, and eat, drink and be merry for four days in exciting New Orleans.

Here are a few of things that we are looking forward to when we visit New Orleans:

Stuffing Our Faces

This southern city is a heaven filled with indulgent food and for four days we will sample all of the culinary treats that it has to offer when we visit New Orleans. I am looking forward to trying Creole cooking, po-boys, muffalettas, gumbo, red beans and rice and more.

Listening to Live Music

Another thing that we are looking forward to when we visit New Orleans is the live music scene. We will probably hear some classic New Orleans jazz as well as modern rock and much more. With so many music clubs to choose from, we will just follow our ears until we find something good.

Seeing the Mighty Mississippi

When we visit New Orleans we are looking forward to seeing the Mississippi, shining like a national guitar as it flows past the city. I think it would be a lot of fun to take a ferry ride on this historic waterway itself.

Riding on a Streetcar

The streetcars of New Orleans are a huge part of the character of the city and we are looking forward to hopping on this retro transport to get around between the attractions. We might even get an unlimited pass so that we can get around the city with ease and get the most out of our short visit to New Orleans.

These are just a few of the things that we are looking forward to in New Orleans, but what we are looking forward to the most is the thrill of experiencing a new city. We love being immersed in a different culture, meeting new people, trying new things and exploring. We can’t wait to visit New Orleans and have a new adventure!

Do you have any recommendations of where we should go when we get there? Please share them in the comments!

  1. This is beautiful. I just want to enjoy a new scene. I’ve lived in Chicago my whole life. I’ve been else where before but just the feeling of being somewhere I’ve never been especially seeing pictures of those places I’ve never been really pumps me up.

  2. I’ve heard a lot of people talk about New Orleans and how great of a place it is. I want to be part of that group.

I want to try out new foods and see the buildings there.

  3. I’ve never been to New Orleans and it was on my list of places I was considering for my vacation at the end of July. Looking at this post makes me hope I made the right choice in deciding to go to San Francisco instead!

I hope you’ll make a post at some point about what your actual experiences in New Orleans were like and what you think are the must see or must do attractions there. What did you like best?

  4. I hope that you enjoyed your visit to New Orleans immensely! I plan to visit one day and experience all that “Nola” has to offer. I’m sure that you had a great time while there!
